Immigrants get a bad rep. In particular, the Hispanic community within the United States.
Mexicans are labeled as:
- lazy
- dangerous
- dirty
- cheap
- uneducated
- non-English speakers
who might be known as:
- rapists
- drug dealers
- thugs
- murderers
- stealing Americans’ jobs
- thieves
If anything in modern years have kept any of these negative stereotypes alive it is the recent election season and now President-Elect Donald Trump’s agenda against immigrants.
He has said horrible statements against Mexicans such as:
- “You have people come in and I’m not just saying Mexicans, I’m talking about people that are from all over, that are killers and rapists and they’re coming to this country,”
- “The Mexican government is much smarter, much sharper, much more cunning. They send the bad ones over because they don’t want to pay for them. They don’t want to take care of them,”
- Or his festive tweet: “Happy #CincoDeMayo! The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill. I love Hispanics!”
- “Build the wall” has become a rant/cheer of Trump supporters at his rallies.
He has met up with the Mexican President to discus a fair relationship between the two and their people. In which Mr. Trump has said:
“We agree on the importance of ending the illegal flow of drugs, cash, guns, and people across our border, and to put the cartels out of business.”
